Called to the ministry in 1970, Dr. Yates has preached and taught the Word of God in all fifty states and over 80 countries. He is also the founder and pastor of the Nashville Cowboy Church, a unique ministry that combines spirit-filled gospel singing and straight-forward evangelical preaching,particularly reaching out to tourists and music business personalities. This ministry reaches out to approximately 250 million people every week via radio, video-streaming,and short wave radio.



Dr. Yates is also a published author, having written severalarticles as well as four books "The Judges and Their Lives", "Give me the Lions (Don't Throw me to the Christians)", a daily devotional book called "FearNot", and "Help! I'm in the Ministry", which also includes all of the books together. He is also ,a songwriter, having penned over 100 songs, someof which have become # 1 songs for his wife Joanne Cash. He has produced several of Joanne's 30 albums and CD's, as well as around 50 albums and tapes for otherartists.  
​A few of the awards he has received include: Trailblazer Award from Christ Centered Music Revival Association in 1996, and the Diamond Awardfor the United States Association of Gospel Entertainers and Musicians in 2007.

 Dr. Yates was recognized for singing on the Grand Ole Opry Stage for 4 and one- half years on the Grand Ole Gospel Program. He and Joanne also received special recognition from then-Governor Lamar Alexander as worldwide ambassadors for the state of Tennessee. He also has been inducted into the ICGMA Hall of Fameand the TCMA Hall of Fame. Dr. Yates and his wife Joanne Cash, have also hosted their own radio and television show called "Cross Country". He has alsobeen a sought after speaker for colleges and universities. He also was inducted into the Business and Professional Hall of Fame for Union College in Kentucky in1999. 
Dr. Yates has conducted crusades in many parts of the world, including Ghana, Kenya, and other places on 6 continents.
